Imamachi - Imamachi

A district in the west of Mitsuke City, in central Niigata Prefecture. Formerly Imamachi. A regional center on the banks of the Kariyata River, it is bustling with activity during the Rokusaiichi festival, held on the 3rd and 8th of each month. In the early modern period, it was a riverside town along the Kariyata River, bustling with rice speculators from Chuetsu Rice, and lively with wholesalers and restaurants lining the streets. Brush-making has also been a specialty here since ancient times. The giant kite battle (June) held on the banks of the Kariyata River is counted as one of the three major kite battles in Echigo.

新潟県中央部、見附市(みつけし)西部の一地区。旧今町。刈谷田(かりやた)川岸にある地方中心街で、3の日と8の日に立つ六斎市(ろくさいいち)でにぎわう。近世は刈谷田川河川交通の河岸場(かしば)町で、中越米(ちゅうえつまい)の米相場師の活躍でにぎわい、問屋、料理屋が軒を並べ、活気を帯びていた。また、古くから筆づくりが名物。また刈谷田川堤防上で行われる大凧合戦(おおだこがっせん)（6月）は越後(えちご)の三大大凧合戦の一つに数えられている。
