…Arecaceae. A species of the genus Howea that grows naturally on Lord Howe Island, northeast of Sydney, Australia; the other species is H. forsteriana Becc. Both species grow to heights of 8-10m, with pinnate compound leaves that are 2-3m long. The leaflets are long lanceolate, with about 40 of them arranged opposite the leaf axis. They can be distinguished by the fact that the leaflets of the Kentia palm are V-shaped relative to the leaf axis, while those of the broadleaf Kentia palm are almost horizontal to the leaf axis. The petioles are long and obliquely upward, and the leaves are gently curved in an arch. …
