Introductory music - Debayashi

Japanese:
Introductory music - Debayashi
A performance term used in Kabuki and Japanese music. In Kabuki and Japanese dance, the nagauta singer, shamisen player, and musicians perform side by side on the stage. The singer and shamisen player sit on the upper tier of the stage, and the flute, small drum, large drum, and taiko drum are lined up on the lower tier. There are at least four musicians, and the number of people on the upper tier increases the number of people to make the stage more lively. In contrast, when Joruri such as Tokiwazu and Kiyomoto perform on stage to accompany the performers, this is called "de-gatari." In this case, a mountain platform is placed on the right or left side of the stage. In Kabuki, it was originally the singer and shamisen that appeared on stage, but from around the Kansei period (1789-1801), the musicians also began to appear on stage and line up, as they do today, and their clothing became unified. In contrast, music performed behind a black blind in the geza area is called "Inbayashi" or "Kuromiso music."
