Gaun-style spinning machine

Japanese: 臥雲式紡績機 - がうんしきぼうせきき
Gaun-style spinning machine

...Abbreviation for Gara spinning. A spinning method using a spinning machine (Gaun-style spinning machine, Gara spinning machine) developed in 1876 by Gaun Tatsuchi (1842-1900), a former monk from Shinshu in the early Meiji period, who improved hand-spinning tools to compete with the mechanical spinning imported from England. The spinning was done in the cotton-growing Mikawa region, using a waterwheel as the power source, and the name comes from the rattling sound it makes.
