Bishop of Antioch around 170. Greek Church Father, apologist, and saint. Known for three apologetics entitled Ad Autolycum, contained in a single volume of an 11th-century Greek manuscript. The first treatise deals with the Christian belief in God and resurrection, the second denounces the immorality of the Greek gods, and the third argues for the superiority of the Christian doctrine of God and creation. He was also the first to use the term trias to describe God. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
