Theodoret (of Cyrus)

Japanese: テオドレトス[キュロスの](英語表記)Theodōrētos
Theodoret (of Cyrus)
393 koro-466
Bishop of Cyrus in Syria and Greek Church Father. He studied as a hermit, but became friends with Nestorius. As a member of the Antiochene School, he advocated the doctrine of the two-phase Christianity and became embroiled in heresy controversies. He criticized Cyril of Alexandria, and was dismissed at the Council of Robbers (449) for being a Monophysite, but was later reinstated. Many of his letters and writings remain, including his Ecclesiastical History, a valuable historical source from the 4th and 5th centuries, as well as a biography of an ascetic and a comparative treatise on Christianity and paganism.
