Tyrrhenian Sea - Mare Tirreno

An area in the central Mediterranean Sea. It is called the Tyrrhenian Sea in Italian, and the Tyrrhenian Sea in English. It is surrounded by the Italian peninsula, Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily. It has an area of about 275,000 square kilometers. It is a deep ocean basin, reaching a maximum depth of 3,758 meters southwest of the island of Ponza. Its salinity is high at 38. It contains islands such as Ischia, Ustica, the Egadi Islands, Capri, the Tuscany Islands, and the Ripoli Islands.
