The former name of the Central African Republic, located in central Africa. The name comes from the fact that the Ubangi River flows west along the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), and the Chari River flows in the north, flowing into Lake Chad. When it became part of French Equatorial Africa in 1910, it was called Ubangi-Chari-Chad, but in 1920 it became Ubangi-Chari after Chad separated, and in 1960 it gained independence as the Central African Republic.
