It is one of the basic operations in plant and animal breeding. In crops, many seeds can often be produced from one individual. Therefore, one individual can produce many offspring in the next generation. Raising the offspring of one individual as a group in this way is called lineage breeding. Several individuals are selected from one lineage, and lineage breeding is done individually for the next generation, with these sibling lineages treated as a lineage group. Selection between lineage groups and between lineages is called lineage selection in a broad sense. It corresponds to individual selection and mass selection.
