Timaios

Japanese: ティマイオス（英語表記）Timaios

A dialogue from Plato's later period. The main speaker is Timaeus of Lokroi, a Pythagorean philosopher from Plato's time. The theme is the origin of the universe, and as Plato's only work on natural philosophy, it was extremely influential throughout the Middle Ages. The mythos that Timaeus speaks of is that God, as creator (Demiurge), gave order to chaos and realized the visible world with Ideas as the prototype (paradigm).

プラトン後期の対話編。プラトンと同時代のピタゴラス派の哲学者ロクロイのティマイオスが主たる話者として登場する。主題は宇宙生成論で，プラトン唯一の自然哲学的著作として中世を通じてきわめて影響力があった。ティマイオスの語るミュトスは，創造者 (デミウルゴス) としての神が，混沌 (カオス) に秩序を与え，イデアを範型 (パラディグマ) として可視的世界を実現させたことを伝えている。
