Cheng Chiryu

A military commander and smuggler at the end of the Ming Dynasty. A native of Nan'an (Fujian), China. Father of Zheng Chenggong. Commonly known as Ichikan, Old Ichikan, and Hirado Ichikan. He came to Japan as a young man and married the daughter of Tagawa Shichizaemon of Hirado, with whom he had two sons, Fukumatsu (later Zheng Chenggong) and Jirozaemon (Shichizaemon). Invited by the Ming Dynasty, he served as a coastal defense guerrilla, military commander-in-chief, and commander-in-chief, seizing maritime power and playing an active role in trade with the South Seas. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, he sought to regain his power by serving King Fu of Nanjing and King Tang of Fujian, but surrendered to the Qing in 1646, when he tried to invite his son Chenggong, who continued to work against the Qing and restore the Ming, but failed, and in April of the same year, he was charged with treason and killed. <References> Ishihara Michihiro, "Kokusingye"

明末武将で密貿易商。中国・南安(福建)の人。鄭成功の父。通称一官,老一官,平戸一官。若いとき日本にきて,平戸の田川七左衛門の娘をめとり,福松(のちの鄭成功),次郎左衛門(七左衛門)の2子をもうけた。明に招かれ海防遊撃,総兵官,都督となり海上権を握り,南海貿易に活躍。明が滅亡すると,南京の福王,福建の唐王に従い勢力回復を図ったが,順治3(1646)年清に降り,抗清復明の活動を続ける子の成功の招諭につとめたが失敗に終わり,同18年4月謀叛律に問われ殺された。<参考文献>石原道博『国姓爺』
