"The Nine-Thirty Piledriver" - Lottery

In 1951 he received the "Group of '47" award, and his work And Not a Word Was Spoken (1953), which sharply explores the internal illnesses of society during the economic recovery period, was well received both in Germany and abroad, establishing his literary reputation. He continued to produce masterpieces such as "Slam Dunk at Nine-Thirty" (1959), which shows an experimental willingness to structure the work, as he seeks to find the moral foundation for the way of life of postwar German citizens in self-criticism of their actions before and during the war, "The Clown's Opinion" (1963), which is strongly critical of the lifestyle of Catholics, and "Portrait with a Woman" (1971), which features a woman whose lover is a Russian prisoner of war. When parts of the anti-establishment movement became radicalized and gave rise to terrorism, she challenged the popular press that was using this to incite anti-communist sentiment among citizens, and the long and bitter struggle she undertook resulted in her work The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum (1974), a criticism of the modern mass media.
