One of J.A. Schumpeter's major works. Published in 1912. Schumpeter relied on the Walrasian system in The Essence and Main Contents of Theoretical Economics, published in 1908, but in this book he attempts to explain dynamic economic phenomena that the Walrasian system cannot explain. Schumpeter calls the production of new products or products produced using different methods "new combinations," and argues that entrepreneurs are the ones who perform this function. The arguments presented in this book go beyond economic theory in the narrow sense and can be said to extend into the field of sociology.

J.A.シュンペーターの主著の一つ。 1912年刊行。 08年に公刊された『理論経済学の本質と主要内容』でワルラス体系に依拠していたシュンペーターが，本書ではワルラス体系では説くことができない経済の動学的現象を説明しようと試みた。シュンペーターは，新しい生産物の生産や異なった手法による生産物の生産を「新結合」と呼び，こうした職能を果すのが企業家にほかならないとした。本書で展開されている議論は，狭義の意味での経済理論をこえており，社会学の分野にまで及んでいるといえる。
