〘Noun〙 A bag that was popular in the early modern period, made by sewing silk into a triangle, filling it with cotton, and attaching thread to the top corner. They were used to attach to the curtains of brothels, as scented sachets , and as good luck charms for needlework, but they quickly fell out of fashion and later became children's toys. It is said that the tosobukuro (new year's sake bag) originated from this. *Haikai and Hikai Hokkucho (1633) Spring "Hanahana no tsubomi wa uki yobukuro ya (Shigemasa)" Source: The Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary About the Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary Information |
