Kabuki actor. A disciple of Danjūrō, his family has a long history on a par with Danzō. (1) First generation (1730-59, ∥Kyōhō 15-Hōreki 9) Formerly known as Matsushima Kichisaburo and Matsushima Yaozo. In 1749 (Kan'en 2), he became a disciple of Danjūrō II and changed his surname. (2) Second generation (1735-77, ∥Kyōhō 20-An'ei 6) He was known as Toyotake Izumidayū and performed Gidayū, but became a disciple of Nakamura Denkurō II and took the name Nakamura Denzō. In 1763 (Hōreki 13), he became a disciple of Danjūrō IV and adopted the name Yaozo. (3) Third generation Formerly known as Suketakaya Takusuke II. 歌舞伎俳優。団十郎門下で団蔵と並ぶ歴史ある家系。(1)初世(1730‐59∥享保15‐宝暦9) 前名松島吉三郎,松島八百蔵。1749年(寛延2)2世団十郎の門下となり改姓。(2)2世(1735‐77∥享保20‐安永6) 豊竹和泉太夫を名のり義太夫を語っていたが,2世中村伝九郎に入門,中村伝蔵と名のる。1763年(宝暦13)4世団十郎の門下となり八百蔵を襲名。(3)3世 2世助高屋高助の前名。(4)4世(1772‐1844∥安永1‐弘化1) 初世藤間勘十郎の弟。
