Miroš Crnjanski

1893‐1970
Yugoslav literary figure. Born in Vojvodina. Studied in Vienna and Belgrade. Together with Andrić and others, he led the new literary movement after World War I, and his work "Ithaca Lyric Poems" (1920) became a monumental work. During and after the war, he was forced to live in exile in London where he worked, and returned to Japan in 1965. In 1962, he completed his first epic novel in 30 years, "The Emigrant," depicting the fate of the Serbian people, and in 1971 he published the long novel "London Story," in which he entrusts his lonely days to a Russian man.

ユーゴスラビアの文学者。ボイボディナの生れ。ウィーン，ベオグラードに学ぶ。アンドリッチらと第1次大戦後の新文学を主導，《イターキ島抒情詩集》(1920)は記念碑的作品となった。戦中･戦後は勤務地のロンドンで亡命生活を余儀なくされ，1965年に帰国。1962年，セルビア人の運命を描いた大河小説《移住者》を30年ぶりに完成，71年には一ロシア人にみずからの孤独な日々を託した長編《ロンドン物語》を発表した。
