Located in Yoshida Kaguraokacho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. Formerly a Kanpei-chusha (medium-ranked shrine). Enshrining Takemikazuchi-no-kami, Iwainushi-no-kami, Amenokoyane-no-mikoto, and Hime-no-kami. Founded in the mid-9th century when the Fujiwara clan split off Kasuga Taisha Shrine. It was revered alongside Oharano-jinja Shrine. For generations, the Urabe clan served the shrine. In the Middle Ages, it became the center of Yoshida Shinto, and Yoshida Kanetomo built Daigen-gu Shrine (with an octagonal main hall and a hexagonal back room) as the main shrine. He also moved the Hasshinden Shrine from the Imperial Palace to the shrine. The main hall is in the four-building Kasuga style. The annual festival is held on April 18th. → Related topics Urabe clan | Shinto shrine | Toyokuni Shrine Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
