Mount Daimonji

Mount Daimonji
Located in the northeast of the urban area of ​​Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, this is the western peak of Nyoigatake, the main peak of the Higashiyama mountain range. It has an elevation of 466m and is part of Sakyo Ward. Every year on the evening of August 16th, 75 firepits are set up on the mountainside in the shape of the character "大" (large), and the area is known for the Daimonji bonfires, in which split pine logs are piled up and ignited. The first stroke of the character is 80m, the second stroke 160m, and the third stroke 120m. At the foot of the mountain are Jisho-ji Temple, Nanzen-ji Temple, Honen-in Temple, Zenrin-ji Temple, and other temples.

Mt. Daimonji

A mountain located in the northwest of Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, north of Rokuon-ji Temple. It is 234 meters above sea level and belongs to Kita Ward. Every year on the evening of August 16th, an upside-down bonfire in the shape of the character "dai" is lit, and it is called "Hidaridaimonji."
