Jiao-tan-yao (English name)

Japanese: 郊壇窯 - こうだんよう（英語表記）Jiao-tan-yao

A kiln located in the southern suburbs of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. It is commonly called Jiaotan Kiln because the top of this hill is the site of the Southern Song Dynasty Jiaotan (→Tiantan) kiln. It was an official kiln of the Southern Song Dynasty, and a representative kiln from the era when pottery technology reached its peak. Its origins are unclear, but it was abandoned with the fall of the Song Dynasty. The characteristics of Jiaotan celadon are its iron-rich clay body, thin base, thick powdery blue celadon glaze, and the large crazing on the surface due to the fact that it is porcelain celadon. Very few remains remain, and in Japan there are only a few in private collections, such as the "Celadon Bowl" and "So-shaped Flower Vase" in the Tokyo National Museum, and a few in China, the United States, etc.

中国，浙江省杭州の南の郊外にあった窯。この丘の頂に南宋代の郊壇 (→天壇 ) 址があるので一般に郊壇窯と呼ぶ。南宋の官窯で，作陶技術が最高潮に達した時代の代表的窯。起源は明らかでないが，宋朝の滅亡とともに廃窯。郊壇青磁の特色は鉄分の多い胎土，素地が薄手なこと，粉青色の青磁釉が厚くかかっていること，陶質青磁のため表面に大きな貫入が生じることなどである。遺品はきわめて少く，日本には東京国立博物館蔵の『青磁鉢』『そう形花生』などのほか個人所蔵のものが若干あり，中国，アメリカなどに数点が存在するのみである。
