A gastropod shell of the family Nectariniidae (illustration). Also known as Tubetagai. It is found from southern Hokkaido to Kyushu and further into the tropical Pacific Ocean, living on sandy and muddy bottoms from the intertidal zone to depths of about 20 m. The shell is globose-ovoid, reaching a height of 7 cm and a diameter of 8.5 cm. The coils are low conical in five stories, and the last coil is very large and round. The shell surface is smooth and marked with growth veins. The area below the boundary between the coils is dark purple-brown, but the rest is lighter in color, and the base is white. The shell opening is wide and semicircular, the mantle is round, and there is a large brown bulge above the inner lip that leads to an umbilicus.
