Tsumekami (English spelling) nail‐biting

Japanese: つめかみ(爪かみ) - つめかみ(英語表記)nail‐biting
Tsumekami (English spelling) nail‐biting
The habit of biting nails. It is a relatively common neurotic habit in children. It usually begins around 4 or 5 years old and is most prevalent between 8 and 10 years old, decreasing thereafter, but it may persist into adulthood. This behavior is thought to be a motor release of psychological tension, as it is seen in situations or settings that cause tension. From a psychoanalytic perspective, it is said to have an aggressive aspect. [Nagashima Masaki] [Nogami Yoshimi]
