Ceratopsian

Japanese: 角竜 - つのりゅう

Ceratopsia is a suborder of the order Ornithischia in the class Reptilia. It is a group of horned dinosaurs. It appeared at the end of the dinosaur evolutionary history. It is a representative dinosaur of the Late Cretaceous period in North America or Asia. It established a defensive form by developing horns on its head. Its prototype is thought to be the Psittacosaurus , a herbivorous, bipedal dinosaur with a body length of about 2m discovered in Mongolia. It has a parrot-like beak and slight ceratopsian-like features on its head.

爬虫綱鳥盤目の1亜目Ceratopsia。すなわち角を備えた恐竜の一群の意。恐竜の進化史からみると最後の時期に出現した。北アメリカあるいはアジアの白亜紀後期の代表的な恐竜である。頭部に角が生じることで防御形態を確立した。祖型はモンゴルで発見された体長2mほどの植食性二脚歩行のプシッタコサウルスPsittacosaurusと考えられている。オウムのようなくちばしをしており，頭部に角竜様の特徴がわずかにみられる。
