Nakamura Jakuemon

Japanese: 中村雀右衛門 - なかむらじゃくえもん

A Kabuki actor. His stage name has been Kyoya for generations.

First World

(1806-1871) A famous actor who played the role of an enemy or a father in the Kamigata region at the end of the Edo period. A talented performer, his best roles included the judge in "Imoseyama Onna Teikin" and Honkura in "Kanadehon Chushingura."

(1841-1895) from Osaka. The second Nakamura Shibajaku, a disciple of the founder, succeeded him in 1875 (Meiji 8). He was a respected leader in the Kamigata Kabuki world, playing leading roles, villain roles and female roles.

(1875-1927) Born in Osaka. Son of Arashi Risho, he was adopted as the second. After becoming the fourth Shijaku, he took the stage name of the third in 1917 (Taisho 6). He was popular for his beauty and was known as a typical modern onnagata (female actor). He excelled in historical plays such as Akahime and other daughter roles. He died suddenly while performing at the Osaka Nakaza Theatre.

(1920-2012) His real name was Aoki Kiyoharu. He was the eldest son of Otani Tomoemon VI. His original name was Otani Kotaro. He took on the stage name of Otani Tomoemon 7 in 1948 (Showa 23), and then took on the stage name of Otani Tomoemon 4 in September 1964. He was active as a female actor with a modern sensibility. In 1991 (Heisei 3), he was recognized as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure), in 1992 he became a member of the Japan Art Academy, and in 2001 he became a Person of Cultural Merit. In 2004, he was awarded the Order of Culture. His eldest son is Otani Tomoemon VIII (1949-), and his second son is Nakamura Shijaku VII (1955-).

歌舞伎(かぶき)俳優。屋号は代々京屋(きょうや)。

初世

（1806―1871）幕末の上方(かみがた)で活躍した敵(かたき)役・親仁(おやじ)方の名優。芸達者で、『妹背山婦女庭訓(いもせやまおんなていきん)』の大判事、『仮名手本忠臣蔵(かなでほんちゅうしんぐら)』の本蔵などが当り役。

（1841―1895）大阪の人。初世の門弟2世中村芝雀(しばじゃく)が1875年（明治8）に2世を継いだ。立役(たちやく)、敵役、女方(おんながた)を兼ね、上方歌舞伎界の重鎮と仰がれた。

（1875―1927）大阪生まれ。嵐璃笑(あらしりしょう)の子で、2世の養子。4世芝雀となったのち1917年（大正6）に3世を襲名。美貌(びぼう)で、近代の典型的女方と称されて人気があった。時代物の「赤姫」や娘役を得意にした。大阪中座に出演中急死。

（1920―2012）本名青木清治(きよはる)。6世大谷友右衛門(ともえもん)の長男。初名大谷広太郎。1948年（昭和23）に7世大谷友右衛門を襲名したのち、1964年9月、4世を襲名した。近代感覚の女方として活躍した。1991年（平成3）重要無形文化財保持者（人間国宝）の認定を受け、1992年芸術院会員、2001年文化功労者となる。2004年文化勲章受章。長男が8世大谷友右衛門（1949―　）、次男が7世中村芝雀（1955―　）である。
