Tsukushi Mountains - Tsukushisanchi

Japanese: 筑紫山地 - つくしさんち
Tsukushi Mountains - Tsukushisanchi
A mountain range stretching from east to west across northern Kyushu. The highest peak is Mount Sefuri (1,055m). It is a low mountain range with an average elevation of 400-900m, and is divided by faults into many mountain massifs, including the Sefuri Mountains, Chikuhi Mountains, Minawa Mountains, and Mikuni Mountains. This mountain range belongs to the inner belt of Western Japan, and is a mixture of granite, Mesozoic and Paleozoic strata, as well as Paleogene layers. Coal is buried in the Paleogene layers, and the coalfields of Chikuho, Fukuoka, Karatsu, and Sasebo are distributed there. The Nukisan mountain range in the east is a limestone mountain range, and karst topography such as Hiraodai is developed. The mountain slopes are generally steep, but there are gentle slopes at the summits, and there are many plains and basins between the various mountain ranges.
