Auger electron spectroscopy

A branch of electron spectroscopy that focuses on electrons generated by the Auger effect, and attempts to gain knowledge about materials, primarily their surfaces, through energy analysis. There are various methods for generating Auger electrons, but this term is often used when focusing on electrons generated by the Auger effect following inner-shell electron ionization by electron irradiation. Because the temperature of the sample rises due to primary electron irradiation, it is primarily used as a means of obtaining information about the surfaces of inorganic materials such as metals.

オージェ効果により発生してくる電子に注目して，そのエネルギー分析から物質の，主として表面に関する知見を得ようとする電子分光法の一部門．オージェ電子発生の手段にはいろいろの方法があるが，電子照射による内殻電子電離に続くオージェ効果による電子に注目する場合に，この用語が用いられることが多い．一次電子照射による試料の温度上昇があるので，主として金属のような無機材料の表面に関する情報を得る手段として用いられている．
