Chen Yang Yue Shu (Chinese: Chen Yang Yue Shu)

Japanese: 陳暘楽書 - ちんようがくしょ（英語表記）Chén yáng yuè shū

A book written by Chen Yang of the Northern Song Dynasty. It has 200 volumes in total. It was presented to Emperor Huizong in 1101 (Jianzhong Jingkuni 1), but it was not published until 99 (Qingyuan 5). It is generally known as the Book of Music. Its contents cover music, theater, dance, acrobatics, ceremonies, etc. The first half is an expository section that quotes and interprets texts from the Four Books and Five Classics, while the second half is a discussion of music theory with many illustrations showing the arrangement of musical instruments, and bands and dancers. The tone of the book was conservative, advocating a range of less than an octave and a five-tone scale without semitones, and rejecting vulgar music and the popular music of Hu music.

北宋の陳暘の書。全200巻。1101年(建中靖国1)徽宗に献上されたが，出版されたのは99年(慶元5)だったという。ふつうには《楽書》で知られる。内容は音楽，演劇，舞踏，曲芸，式典などにわたる。四書五経などの文を引き解釈を加えた訓義篇の前半と，図を多く入れて楽理，楽器，楽隊舞隊の配列を示した楽図論の後半とからなる。論調は音域をオクターブ以下，音階は半音なしの5音音階を主張するなど保守的で俗楽，胡楽の流行音楽を否定した。
