Kiyoshi Wada

Kiyoshi Wada
Born: November 15, 1890, Kanagawa
[Died] June 22, 1963. Tokyo scholar of Oriental history. An authority on Ming and Qing history, Manchurian and Mongolian history, and Southeast Asian history. Graduated from the Department of History, College of Literature, University of Tokyo in 1915. Became a lecturer at the Faculty of Letters, University of Tokyo in 1922, an associate professor in 1927, and a professor in 1933. From 1941 to 1951, he was head of the Department of Oriental History. In 1951, he became a member of the Japan Academy. Many scholars of Oriental history were produced under his guidance. He worked hard to manage the Oriental Library Foundation, and was a distinguished contributor to the editing of the Journal of Oriental Studies. His main works include The Origin of the Inner Mongolian Tribes, Essays on East Asian History, An Outline of Chinese History, Studies in East Asian History (Manchuria Edition), and Studies in East Asian History (Mongol Edition).
