Kyuryuchu (Kyuryuchu) - Kyuryuchu

Kyuryuchu (Kyuryuchu) - Kyuryuchu
Also known as the Chinese mealworm. A type of beetle in the Tenebrionidae family. It is about 6mm long and has a shiny black-brown color. It is found in China and Southeast Asia and is thought to have been introduced to Japan. Both the larvae and adults feed on dried plant matter. It was once advertised as a sexual enhancement agent if you bred it on medicinal herbs and ingested it alive, but the effectiveness of this is questionable.
