?-989 A Taoist priest from the Five Dynasties and early Song dynasty in China. His pen name was Tunan. He was from Bozhou (Henan). After failing the imperial examination during the Changxing era of the Later Tang dynasty (930-933), he gave up on government service and retired to the Jiushi Rocks of Mount Wudang in Hunan to study Taoism, later living in places such as Yuntaiguan Temple on Mount Huashan. He was summoned by Emperor Shizong of the Later Zhou dynasty, and during the reign of Emperor Taizong of the Song dynasty he travelled to the capital twice, where he was favored and given the title of Professor Xiyi. He was fond of the Book of Changes, and wrote works such as Zhengyi Xinfa, and in particular the Taijitu (Tai Chi Tu), which forms the foundation of Song learning, is said to have been his work.
