Gardner's syndrome

A type of polyposis syndrome. Polyposis is hereditary and has a strong tendency to become cancerous. It is accompanied by soft tissue tumors such as epidermoid cysts, desmoids, and lipomas, and osteomas or dental abnormalities. This diagnosis is made when all three signs of polyposis, soft tissue tumors, and osteomas are present, or when one or more of the three signs are present and there is a blood relative with all three signs. It was first reported by E. Gardner in 1950, hence the name.

大腸ポリポージス症候群の一つ。遺伝性で癌化の傾向のきわめて強い大腸ポリポージスに，類表皮嚢腫，類腱腫，脂肪腫などの軟部腫瘍と，骨腫あるいは歯牙の異常を合併するもの。大腸ポリポージス，軟部腫瘍，骨腫の3徴候をすべてそなえている場合，あるいは3徴候のうち1つ以上が認められ，3徴候のすべてをそなえた血縁者がある場合に，この診断がつけられる。 E.ガードナーが 1950年に初めて報告したので，この名がある。
