Duties. ※Shoku Nihongi - Yoro 3rd year (719), November 1st, Otou "Encourage virtue and study, and make it the sovereign's duty" [Xunzi - Eishoku] ② By extension, it means the rights and obligations that come with one's duties. Especially in the Middle Ages, it meant managing the manor land and making a profit, collecting annual taxes, and the related administrative measures for managing real estate rights. Manor duties. In the Edo period, it was often used to mean annual taxes and tributes. 〘名〙① つとめ。やくめ。仕事。所役。※続日本紀‐養老三年(719)一一月乙卯「勧善奨学、為レ君者所務」 〔荀子‐栄辱〕② 転じて、職務にともなう権利義務をいう。特に中世では、荘園田地を管理して収益すること、また年貢を収納することやその年貢をいい、さらにこれに関連して不動産物権を管理する行政的処置も含めて用いられた。荘務。江戸時代には、年貢、貢租の意味で用いられることが多かった。〔近衛家本追加‐貞応二年(1223)七月六日〕※政談(1727頃)二「其土地を下し置るる上は、年貢米と夫役とは其君の所務となり」③ 「しょむさた(所務沙汰)」の略。※沙汰未練書(14C初)「検断沙汰とは謀叛〈略〉昼強盗 但追捕狼藉者所務也」
