A town in Itano County in the northeastern part of Tokushima Prefecture. The main settlement, Banzai, developed as a key transportation hub where the Muya Highway and the Sanuki Highway, which leads to Sanuki via the Osaka Pass, intersect, and the Kotoku Line passes through. The town produces a lot of vegetables, and is known for its pickled radish, shiitake mushrooms, and matsutake mushrooms. Area: 36.22 km2 . Population: 14,241 (2010). 徳島県北東部，板野郡の町。主集落の板西(ばんざい)は撫養(むや)街道と大坂峠を経て讃岐(さぬき)に通じる讃岐街道の交わる交通要地として発達，高徳線が通じる。野菜を多産，たくあん，シイタケ，マツタケを特産。36.22km2。１万4241人（2010）。
