...A fabric made by cutting cotton velvet vertically to create ridges. To create vertical ridges, in addition to the warp and warp base weave, another set of weft threads is woven in like a tatami mat so that they are held down at a certain point by the warp threads, and the raised parts are made to stand up after weaving. The ridges range in width from about 10mm to 1.2mm. Wide ridges are called Oni Cord and narrow ridges are called Hoso Cord. It is thick and heavy, but strong and warm, so it can be used for a wide range of purposes. Most are plain, but there are also patterns, and the ridges cast shadows on the surface of the fabric, giving the color depth. ...

…綿ビロード織のものを縦にけば畝を通すためにカットした織物。縦畝をあらわすには経緯糸の地組織のほかに，もう一組の緯糸をある点で経糸におさえられるよう畳表のように織りつけ，織り上げたあと浮いた部分を毛立ちさせる。畝幅は10mmぐらいから1,2mmぐらいまで。畝の太いものを鬼コール，狭いものを細コールという。地厚で重いが丈夫で暖かいので，幅広く活用できる。無地が多いが柄物もあり，畝で織物の表面に陰ができ色にも深みがでる。…
