To create vertical ridges, in addition to the warp and warp base weave, another set of weft threads is woven in like a tatami mat so that they are held down at a certain point by the warp threads, and the raised parts are made to stand up after weaving. The ridges range in width from about 10mm to 1.2mm. Wide ridges are called Oni Cord and narrow ridges are called Hoso Cord. It is thick and heavy, but strong and warm, so it can be used for a wide range of purposes.
