Itadori [Village] - Itadori

Japanese: 板取[村] - いたどり

A village in Mugi County, central Gifu Prefecture. Population 2003 (1995). A mountain village in the upper reaches of the Itadori River, a tributary of the Nagara River. Bordering Fukui Prefecture, a mountain range with Mt. Heikedake (1,442m) as its highest peak in the north forms the watershed between the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The Itadori River cuts a deep eroded valley through the center of the village as it flows south, and settlements and cultivated land are scattered on the small amount of lowland on both banks of the river. Most of the village area is covered by forests and wilderness, and forestry is the main industry. The population is declining rapidly and depopulation is progressing, but the upper reaches of the Itadori River are a remote area of Murasaki Hachicho (Ito Gorge), and it has been designated a nature resort village, and tourism development has been progressing.

岐阜県中央部，武儀郡の村。人口2003(1995)。長良川支流の板取川最上流域の山村。福井県に接し，北部の平家岳(1442m)を主峰とする山脈が日本海と太平洋の分水界をなす。板取川が村の中央を深い浸食谷を刻んで南流し，集落と耕地は河川両岸のわずかな低地に点在する。村域の大部分が山林，原野で占められ，林業を主産業とする。人口減少が著しく過疎化が進むが，板取川の最上流は紫八丁(板取峡)の秘境で，自然休養村の指定を受け，観光開発が進められた。
