This Jomon period ruins is located in Maeyama, Kitamura, Kawanami-cho, Monou-gun, Miyagi Prefecture. It is located on a hill 30-40m above sea level, 1km south of Maeyachi Station on the JR Ishinomaki Line. In 1910, the landowner, Saito Zen'emon, became interested in the pottery and stone tools that had been unearthed here, and invited Tsuboi Shogoro from Tokyo to appraise them. The name Takaragamine of the ruins was also given to Tsuboi at the request of the Saito family, with the idea that what is known as a mountain of rubble is also a mountain of treasure for academics. His son, Saito Zenjiro, personally carried out excavation surveys from that year through 1927. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
