As belief in Kannon became popular, various sutras such as the Gaowang Kannon Sutra were produced, and records of Kannon's miracles were compiled, such as the Kannon Ogenden by Xie Shi of the Jin Dynasty and the Xuan Jinji by Liu Yiqing of the Song Dynasty. The Kannon Sutra, or the Fumonbon chapter of the Lotus Sutra, states, "If many people, when suffering in various ways, hear the name of Kannon Bodhisattva and chant his name with all their heart, Kannon Bodhisattva will immediately hear the sound and grant them all liberation." …
