〘Noun〙① A small, light boat with one or two oars that was widely used for passing through, hunting, and pleasure boating on rivers in Edo after the Great Fire of Meireki 3 (1657 ). It was also called a Yamaya-bune because it was used for commuting to Yamaya. The boat had a sharp bow with a water-pressure-driven design, and was long and slender with a top mouth about 25 shaku (about 7.6 meters) long and 4.5 shaku (about 1.4 meters) wide, making it suitable for speed and famous for its speed. In Tokai and Kansai, it is called "choro." ※Edict Kanpo Shusei - 42, August 1714, "The order to suspend the operation of one-choki ships during the summer has been issued to all remaining ships."② Small ships bound for the Seto Inland Sea, ranging from 10 koku to over 100 koku, transported firewood, charcoal and other goods from the western provinces to the Osaka and Nada areas. The shape of the ship is similar to that of a bezai-zukuri ship, but the upper part of the ship is very simply constructed. ※Request for the increase or decrease of ships (1790), "One boar-tooth ship with a capacity of 20 koku"

〘名〙① 明暦三年（一六五七）の江戸大火以後、江戸市中の河川などで通船・猟船・遊船にひろく使われた軽快な一～二挺櫓の小船。山谷通いに利用されたので山谷船ともいう。船型は船首の鋭い水押造り、上口長さ約二五尺（約七・六メートル）、幅四・五尺（約一・四メートル）の細長いもので、速力を出すのに適し、その速さは有名であった。東海・関西では「ちょろ」という。※御触書寛保集成‐四二・正徳四年（1714）八月「一ちょき船之儀、当夏中令停止、不残解船に申付候之処」② 瀬戸内方面の小廻しの廻船で、小は十石積から大は百石積以上におよび、西国筋から薪・炭その他商売物を積んで大坂・灘界隈に運送した。船型はべざい造りに似ているが、上廻りはごく簡素な構造となっている。※諸船増減御願之留メ（1790）「一猪牙船弐拾石積壱艘」
