Zhao Yi - Very well

A Chinese scholar and poet during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. Born into a merchant family in Wujin County, Jiangsu Province. His courtesy name was Yunsong and his pen name was Oubei. Praised as a child prodigy, at the age of 23 he became a juren in Shuntian Prefecture (Beijing) and entered the Military Affairs Bureau. At the age of 34, he was ranked first in the palace examination and became a Jinshi, entering the Hanlin Academy. At the age of 39, he became the prefect of Zhen'an Prefecture in Guangxi Province and was involved in civil administration in the border areas. He moved from Guangzhou to the border areas of Guizhou, but was not rewarded for his achievements, so he retired from his post and returned to his hometown. At the age of 60, he was asked by Li Shiyao, the governor-general of Fujian and Zhejiang, to become a staff officer, but he also became the head lecturer of the Anding Academy in his hometown and devoted himself to writing. His poetry was well-known throughout the country, and he was praised as one of his contemporaries, Yuan Mei (Zuiyuan) and Jiang Shiquan (Zangyuan). His works include "The Twenty-Two Histories and the Zanjiang Literature," "The Thoughts of Yan Yu," "Miscellaneous Notes on the Exposure of the People," "Poetry of Oubei," and "Records of Military Merit of the Dynasty."

中国、清(しん)代乾隆(けんりゅう)期の学者、詩人。江蘇(こうそ)省武進県の商家の出身。字(あざな)は耘松(うんしょう)、号は甌北(おうほく)。幼少から神童とうたわれ、23歳で順天府(北京(ペキン))で挙人となって軍機処に入り、34歳で殿試第一席、進士となって翰林院(かんりんいん)に入った。39歳で広西省鎮安府の知府となって辺境の民政にあたり、広州から貴州へと辺境へ移り、治績はあがっても報いられず、退官して郷里へ帰った。60歳になって閩浙(びんせつ)総督李侍堯(りじぎょう)に懇望され、幕僚となったが、また郷里で安定書院の主講となって著述に専念した。詩名は全国に高く、同時期の袁枚(えんばい)(随園(ずいえん))、蒋士銓(しょうしせん)(蔵園)と並称された。著書に『二十二史箚記(さっき)』『陔余叢考(がいよそうこう)』『簷曝(たんばく)雑記』『甌北詩話』『皇朝武功紀盛』などがある。
