A Chinese charity organization. Its official name is the China International Famine Relief Commission. It developed from relief efforts by Chinese and Westerners during the Great North China Famine in the summer of 1920, and was established in November 1921. Even after the famine, with donations and funding from the Chinese government, the organization continued to work on famine relief efforts across China, under the motto "disaster relief is better than disaster prevention," as well as rural construction activities (construction of roads and irrigation channels, and the promotion of rural credit cooperatives).
