Conscription examination - choheikensa

Under the old conscription law and the old military service law, the physical and personal characteristics of young men were examined to determine whether they were suitable for military service. Every year, conscripts conscripted men of conscription age (20 years old or older) were called up in each conscription district and the examination was carried out by conscription officers. Candidates for the conscription examination were classified into three categories according to their physical characteristics: Classes A and B were suitable for active duty, Class C was suitable for national military service, Class D was unsuitable for military service, and Class B was for those whose suitability was difficult to determine (deferred conscription).
