Truong Chinh

Vietnamese politician. Chairman of the Council of State (head of state) since 1981. His real name was Dang Xuan Khu. Born in Nam Dinh Province in northern Vietnam, he joined the anti-French movement around 1928. After the Communist Party of Vietnam was founded in Hong Kong in 1930, he joined the domestic organization and was arrested in 1933. However, he was released in 1936 when the Popular Front was established in France and became the open representative of the party. When the party was outlawed in 1939, he escaped to Yunnan Province in China and worked as a close aide to Ho Chi Minh. Due to his affinity with the Chinese Communist Party, he changed his political name to Truong Trinh, which is the pronunciation of the Chinese character for "Long March."

ベトナムの政治家。1981年以来，国家評議会議長(元首)。本名ダン･スアン･クーDang Xuan Khu。ベトナム北部のナムディン省に生まれ，1928年ころから抗仏運動に加わった。30年香港でベトナム共産党が創立された後，その国内組織に入党し，33年に逮捕されたが，36年フランス本国に人民戦線が成立して釈放されると党の公開代表となった。39年党の非合法化で中国雲南省に脱出，ホー･チ･ミンの側近として活躍し，中国共産党に対する親近感から政治家としての名を〈長征〉の字音チュオン･チンに改めた。
