A deciduous tree of the Anacardiaceae family found in the northwest of Kagoshima Prefecture and Amakusa in Japan, it can reach a height of 30 m. The bark is gray-brown and has longitudinal fissures, and falls off in flakes. The leaves are alternate, odd-pinnate, compound, and 20-30 cm long. There are 7-9 membranous leaflets, ovate or ovate-oblong. The male flowers are gathered in panicles 3-4 cm long in the axils of young branches. In Japan, it blooms in early summer. The sepals are ovate with fine hairs on the margins. The petals are about 3 mm long and slightly curve outward at the top. There are 10 stamens, the same length as the petals. 日本では鹿児島県の北西部や天草に見られるウルシ科の落葉高木で,高さ30mに達する。樹皮は灰褐色で縦裂し,片状にはげ落ちる。葉は互生し,奇数羽状複葉,長さ20~30cm。膜質の小葉は7~9枚,卵形ないし卵状長楕円形。雄花は若枝の葉腋(ようえき)に長さ3~4cmの円錐花序に集まる。日本では初夏に開花する。萼片は楕円形でふちに微毛がある。花弁は長さ約3mmで,上方はやや外曲する。おしべは10本で花弁と同長。
