A city in central Thailand and the capital of the province of the same name. Population 30,242 (1980). It is located 11 km inland from the northeast coast of the Gulf of Thailand (Siam), close to the border with Cambodia to the east. Although the area of rice paddies in the area is small, it is a major fruit-growing region, and rubber plantations extend across the hills. Field farming is also thriving, with coffee, sugar cane, and pepper being the main crops. Precious stones such as topaz, sapphire, and ruby are mined in the mountains to the west, and there are gemstone processing plants nearby. タイ中部の都市で同名県の県都。人口3万0242(1980)。タイ(シャム)湾の北東岸から11km内陸に位置し,東方はカンボジアとの国境に近い。付近の水田面積はせまいが,有数の果樹栽培地であり,丘陵地にはゴム園が広がっている。畑作も盛んで,コーヒー,サトウキビ,コショウの産出が多い。西方の山地からはトパーズ,サファイア,ルビーなどの宝石が採掘され,付近には宝石加工場が立地する。カトリックのベトナム系住民が多い。
