A northern nomadic people who have lived widely in western and northwestern China (Qinghai, Gansu) since ancient times. Historically, they have had a close relationship with the Di. The character Qiang (qiang) already appears in the oracle bones of the Shang dynasty, and one theory is that it was sacrificed in the rituals of the Shang kings and other Shang people (especially ancestral rituals). Qiang (archaic pronunciation: Kiang) is a compound character of sheep and man, meaning a shepherd, and its sound is thought to be related to the archaic pronunciation of giang for sheep. In fact, the Qiang people consider sheep to be the most sacred animal, and they keep them as their main livestock. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
