Mixing is not only a phenomenon of biological amalgamation, but also brings about a transformation of social traditions. The biological consequences of mixing have the following characteristics: (1) Breakdown of racial adaptation At least some of the racial characteristics are thought to be the result of selection of traits that are advantageous to the local environment, but these adaptive traits lose their distinctiveness through mixing.
