For example, among tribes that classify their oral traditions into eight types, the Yoruba of Nigeria classify them into (1) myths, (2) legends, (3) stories, (4) riddles, (5) proverbs, (6) songs, (7) spells, and (8) couplets used in divination ceremonies; the Marakwet of Kenya classify them into (1) stories, (2) demon tales, (3) fables, (4) riddles, (5) proverbs, (6) songs of circumcision and other rituals, (7) children's songs and games, and (8) songs sung by men; and the Ganda of Uganda classify them into (1) stories, (2) stories with songs, (3) proverbs, (4) riddles, (5) history, (6) legends and myths, (7) recitations with emphasis on expressive techniques, and (8) songs. Furthermore, there are cases where a certain form, such as a certain type of poetry, actually exists but has no special general term to refer to it.
