Uesugi Zenshu

Japanese: 上杉禅秀 - うえすぎぜんしゅう

?-1417 A military commander of the Muromachi period.
Son of Uesugi Tomomune. Succeeded the Inukake Uesugi clan, served as guardian of Kazusa (Chiba prefecture) and Musashi, and became Kanto Kanrei in 1420. He came into conflict with Kamakura kubo Ashikaga Mochiuji and Yamanouchi Uesugi Norimoto, and resigned from his position as Kanrei in 1430. The following year he raised an army with Kanto warlords including Mochiuji's uncle Mitsutaka, the Chiba clan, and the Iwamatsu clan. Defeated by Mochiuji, who was supported by the shogunate, he committed suicide in Kamakura on January 10, 1421. His name was Ujinori.

上杉朝宗の子。犬懸(いぬかけ)上杉家をつぎ,上総(かずさ)(千葉県)・武蔵(むさし)の守護,応永18年関東管領となる。鎌倉公方(くぼう)足利持氏や山内(やまのうち)上杉憲基と対立し,22年管領を辞職。翌年持氏の叔父満隆,千葉氏,岩松氏らの関東の武将と挙兵。幕府に支持された持氏に敗れて,応永24年1月10日鎌倉で自殺した。名は氏憲(うじのり)。
