Titanium alloy - Titanium alloy

Titanium is the main component, and aluminum, tin, manganese, iron, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, etc. are added alone or in combination. Titanium alloys are used as equipment materials in chemical plants because of their excellent corrosion resistance, and as aircraft engine and airframe materials because of their high specific strength at high temperatures. Titanium is highly biocompatible, so its use as a biomaterial is expanding. Titanium alloys can be broadly divided into three types based on their metal structure: α, α+β, and β. Representative titanium alloys include α-type Ti-5% Al-2.5% Sn by mass, α+β-type Ti-8% Mn, Ti-4% Al-4% Mn, Ti-6% Al-4% V by mass, and β-type Ti-13% V-11% Cr-3% Al by mass. All types contain a few percent aluminum by mass. This aluminum not only strengthens the α phase, but also improves oxidation resistance and suppresses hydrogen embrittlement. Currently, the strongest alloy is the beta type Ti-13% by mass V-11% by mass Cr-3% by mass Al alloy, which can achieve a tensile strength of 150 kg mm ^-2 by appropriate heat treatment. チタンを主成分とし，アルミニウム，スズ，マンガン，鉄，クロム，モリブデン，バナジウムなどを単独または複合して添加した合金．チタン合金は耐食性にすぐれていることから化学工場の装置材料として，また高温度での比強度が高いことから航空機のエンジンやまわりの機体材料などに用いられている．チタンは生体適合性が高いことから，生体材料への用途が拡大している．チタン合金はその金属組織によって合金系をα，α＋βおよびβ形の三つに大別できる．それぞれの代表的なチタン合金をあげると，α形には，Ti-5質量％ Al-2.5質量％ Sn，α＋β形には，Ti-8質量％ Mn，Ti-4質量％ Al-4質量％ Mn，Ti-6質量％ Al-4質量％ V，β形には，Ti-13質量％ V-11質量％ Cr-3質量％ Al合金がある．いずれもアルミニウムを数質量％ 含有している．このアルミニウムはα相を強化することだけでなく耐酸化性を向上させ，水素脆性を押さえる役割もしている．現在もっとも強力な合金はβ形のTi-13質量％ V-11質量％ Cr-3質量％ Al合金であり，適当な熱処理を行うことによって150 kg mm^－2 の引張強さが得られる．またもっとも多く用いられているのは，焼入れ，焼戻しを行ったα ＋ β形のTi-6質量％ Al-4質量％ V合金である．[別用語参照]軽合金
