Japanese: 箱庭療法 - はこにわりょうほう（英語表記）sand play

It is a type of psychotherapy founded by M. Lowenfeld in 1929 and developed by D. Kalf. Children are given a box filled with sand and miniatures of people, animals, plants, monsters, vehicles, buildings, etc., and are allowed to play freely with them. It is believed that the sandplays created concretely and directly express the creator's inner thoughts, emotions, and other aspects, and that by continuing to create sandplays, these are symbolically organized and integrated. It is said that by experiencing this process, the creator's own self-healing powers are able to resolve psychological conflicts. Initially, it was mainly used to treat emotionally disturbed children, but its scope of application has now expanded to include severe cases and adults.

1929年，M.ローエンフェルトによって創始され，D.カルフが発展させた心理療法の一つ。砂の入った箱と人，動植物，怪獣，乗物，建築物などのミニチュアを児童に与え，自由に遊ばせる。つくりだされた箱庭には，制作者の考えや感情など内面的なものが具象的・直接的に表現されているとし，また箱庭を継続してつくることによって，それらが象徴的に整理，統合されると考える。その過程を体験することで，制作者自身の自己治癒力によって心理的な葛藤を解決することができるという。当初はおもに情緒障害児童の治療に用いられていたが，現在では重篤な事例や成人にも適用範囲が拡大している。
