...In the narrow sense, it refers to the mountain range that stretches from north to south with the main peak Akadake (2,899m) at its center, including Nishidake, Amigasayama, Gongendake, Amidadake, Yokodake, Iodake, and Minenomatsume. In recent years, these have been grouped together as Minami-Yatsugatake, and the mountains north of Natsuzawa Pass, such as Neishidake, Tengudake, Nakayama, Shimagareyama, and Yokodake, are referred to as Kita-Yatsugatake. Together, these two mountains stretch over more than 20km from north to south, and are 2,200 to 2,900m above sea level, and are generally referred to as Yatsugatake. Both the north and south are volcanoes that arose from the Tertiary layer in the Fossa Magna region. ...
